I think people like to see train wrecks on television and what they presented to BRAVO fans was exactly that. I'm surprised Fashion Queens lasted as long as it did. Bevy is barely making the 6-figure salary she was making at Vibe. She also brags about not spending her money on clothing. She will always be wrapped in something that has at least 8-10% lycra (her words). That's why you'll NEVER see her in couture (something she brags about) or high-end designer labels, because they do not make their garments in her size. She has been lying for years saying she wears a size 12 and everybody, to include her favorite girls at the WTC Century 21 knows thats a lie. I think that base model Evoque they loaned her from Range Rover was the first car she ever "owned." Like most New Yorkers, she's never drove. Last I heard, she still lives in Harlem - renting a decent size apartment there. She treats her sibling's kids like they're her own. She's single, never been married and doesn't have kids. Her motto has and always will be: Get Money! Can't be mad at that. She went to Billboard for 5 minutes before she saw the writing on the wall there, too, and that's when she broke out on her own. She left Vibe right before getting fired, because her sale pages were low. She milked the Vibe Magazine cow for everything she could get out of it. The dynamic between the two has leveled over the years, as life has humbled him somewhat. When he was EIC, she would bark and walk on one leg when he entered the room. She worked her way into fashion circles and quickly became Emil's black toy poodle. She would argue in meetings with Armani and Gucci that they were missing out on an untapped market - urban youth - who actually will spend their rent money on high end designer goods. This was before Street Style blogging became a thing. She approached many houses by simply showing them a picture books full of pictures she took on the streets of NYC of everyday brown and black girls and boys wearing THEIR clothes. She used anyone she could to sell the high fashion labels advertising pages in the magazine. She had a reputation for not being able to keep an assistant for more than 6 months. She wore a pink bubble gum suit with her breasts exposed to the Interview with Keith, gave sass and walked out with the job. She is a Harlem Socialite who made a name for herself at Vibe Magazine as Fashion Director after a relatively unsuccessful climb in the corporate world. Bevy Smith is believed to be born female.
